high-pressure technology meets world heritage: water pipe restoration on the ponte vecchio
florence – four sections of an aging water pipe on the famous ponte vecchio bridge, a unesco world heritage site, were recently successfully renovated. due to the bridge's listed status, only certified partners were allowed to participate in the project. as project consultants for falch, tommy ditrani and sergio vicari provided technical advice to the actual contractor responsible for renovating the pipes.
a total of 590 meters of pipes were worked on, including 50 m, 190 m and 280 m of sections with a diameter of dn 600, and 70 m of dn 300. a falch trail jet 125 high-pressure pump and a drain helper equipped with point speed 30 nozzles were used. this combination enabled precise, fast, and gentle cleaning.
the performance data was impressive: 50 meters of pipe were cleaned in just 44 minutes, at a cable winch speed of 0.8–0.9 m/min. without this equipment, the customer would have needed around two days for the same 50-meter section – an enormous advantage in terms of time and cost.
